a poem (for sunlight and Venice)

She says the sparkle of the sea
looks as though the stars have fallen
from sky to water
and blinding is this light
of a thousand fairies
glimmering and changing
atop green blue ocean
that can hold its own
against unforgiving time
reminding gently that
this is the time for living
for dancing, for singing
for kissing and making love
with strangers and friends alike
that this is the time for breathing.
as the age of the stone
and the ocean
present a subtle rhapsody
to those who listen
the seagulls and pigeons dance
they wait and pounce
as people bustle and stop
and speak
and I am here
silent.
dancing like a still sun ray
on a stone wall.
